A Two-Stage Method for Inverse Acoustic Medium Scattering

چکیده
We present a novel numerical method to the time-harmonic inverse medium scattering problem of recovering the refractive index from noisy near-field scattered data. The approach consists of two stages, one pruning step of detecting the scatterer support, and one resolution enhancing step with nonsmooth mixed regularization. The first step is strictly direct and of sampling type, and it faithfully detects the scatterer support. The second step is an innovative application of nonsmooth mixed regularization, and it accurately resolves the scatterer sizes as well as intensities. The nonsmooth model can be efficiently solved by a semi-smooth Newton-type method. Numerical results for twoand three-dimensional examples indicate that the new approach is accurate, computationally efficient, and robust with respect to data noise.

Analytic continuation of perturbative solutions of acoustic 1D wave equation by means of Padé approximants
The forward scattering series is an important and useful tool in constructing perturbative solutions to wave equation and understanding their relationship to their non-perturbative counterparts. When it converges, the series describes the total wavefield everywhere in a given medium as propagations in a reference medium and interactions with point scatterers. The method can be viewed as constru...

We present the mathematical foundation for a point-source method to solve some inverse acoustic and electromagnetic obstacle scattering problems in three dimensions. We investigate the inverse acoustic scattering problem by a sound-soft and a sound-hard scatterer and the inverse electromagnetic scattering problem by a perfect conductor. Two independent approaches to the method are presented whi...
متن کاملThe method of fundamental solutions for inverse obstacle acoustic scattering
In this paper we propose a simple method for detecting (shape, size and location) a scatterer embedded in a host acoustic homogeneous medium from scant measurements of the scattered acoustic pressure in the vicinity (near-or far-field) of the obstacle. We develop a nonlinear constrained minimization regularized method of fundamental solutions for obtaining the numerical solution of the inverse ...

We consider the inverse problem of determining shape and location of sound-soft defects inside a known planar inhomogeneous and anisotropic medium through acoustic imaging at low frequency. In order to determine the defects, we perform acoustic boundary measurements, with prescribed boundary conditions of different types. We prove that at most two, suitably chosen, measurements allow us to uniq...

We address the inverse problem for scattering of acoustic waves due to an inhomogeneous medium. We derive and analyze the Hessian in both Hölder and Sobolev spaces. Using an integral equation approach based on Newton potential theory and compact embeddings in Hölder and Sobolev spaces, we show that the Hessian can be decomposed into two components, both of which are shown to be compact operator...
